Do you enjoy action roguelite games with fast-paced combat and social features? Then The Beacon is just for you! This free-to-play fantasy RPG built on the Treasure DAO ecosystem combines procedurally generated dungeons with MMO-style social hubs, player housing customization, and optional NFT collectibles across Arbitrum, ZKsync, and Ronin networks.
What is The Beacon?
The Beacon is a free-to-play action roguelite RPG developed by Skillcap Studio, available on the Epic Games Store and as a web client in your browser. The game now runs in seasons, each with new systems, rewards and ways to play, starting with Season 1, Goblin’s Gambit.
Built within the Treasure DAO ecosystem on Arbitrum and ZKsync, The Beacon combines traditional roguelite dungeon crawling with persistent MMO elements. Set in a fantasy world threatened by an ever-growing darkness called Umbra, humanity survives under the fading light of an ancient Beacon. Players take the role of adventurers who established Dawnport, the first settlement away from the capital city of Altaris.

How Does The Beacon Work?
Combat follows traditional action roguelite structure where you enter procedurally generated dungeons with basic weapon loadouts and build strength through temporary upgrades, items, and ability modifiers discovered while clearing rooms. Enemy types, combat pacing, and room layouts change every run, rewarding pattern recognition, dodge timing, and strategic decision-making about when to push deeper versus retreat.
Runs operate on a skill-based progression system. Character upgrades earned during a dungeon run do not carry over after completion, meaning success depends on reflexes and combat knowledge rather than permanent stat inflation. You face skeletons, traps, arrow volleys, and explosions that demand constant awareness and precise movement. Combat rewards players who master weapon rhythms and learn to sequence abilities effectively.
Outside dungeons, the game shifts to social hub gameplay. Dawnport functions as a shared town where you walk around, interact with other players, and display cosmetic achievements. The housing system lets you decorate a personal home using furniture and themed pieces earned through events or purchased with in-game currency. You can visit other players’ houses to compare collections and trade decorative items.
Daily activities include tavern quizzes that provide loot chests and reveal game lore, along with daily dungeon challenges. Season 1 adds Kraken Klash, a prediction-based board game on top of the dungeon loop, played with Gobloonz you get by converting the Umbra Shards you collect in dungeon runs.
Digital Collectibles in The Beacon
The Beacon integrates blockchain technology through the Treasure DAO ecosystem, using $MAGIC as the primary cryptocurrency across Arbitrum and ZKsync networks. $MAGIC functions as the medium of exchange for NFT marketplace trading, serves as a reward token for gameplay activities and staking, and provides DAO governance participation rights. The token has a fixed supply of 347,714,007 ERC-20 tokens.
Founding Characters are early supporter NFT avatars that grant access to exclusive seasonal events and unlock cosmetic rewards. These characters do not provide combat stat advantages but serve as identity markers and community recognition. Gen-0 Pets function as collectible companions with planned breeding mechanics still in development. Pets offer event-related utility and occasional influence on loot drops during specific testing phases.
The game maintains blockchain features as completely optional. Players can enjoy the full core experience without connecting crypto wallets or interacting with NFTs. Cosmetics you earn as a free player stay bound to your account, while the paid Premium Starter Pack adds NFT cosmetics you fully own and can trade. Players interested in NFT ownership can trade collectibles on Magic Eden, the native Treasure marketplace, and Ronin-based platforms.
Cosmetic NFTs include character skins, housing furniture, wearable items, and decorative collectibles. Values derive from rarity, visual design, and seasonal availability rather than gameplay power. The housing system accepts NFT imports from other projects within the Treasure ecosystem, allowing cross-game asset utility.
