Off The Grid is a free-to-play third-person battle royale developed by Gunzilla Games, founded in 2020 by industry veterans from CryEngine, Far Cry, and Crysis. The game is in early access on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Mac.

Off The Grid dominated the 2025 GAM3 Awards, securing a five-category sweep against 900+ nominated games: Game of the Year, Best Esports Game, Best Action Game, Best Shooter, and Best Multiplayer Game. The achievement was determined by 80+ jurors from Konami, Sony, Ubisoft, Krafton, Google, and Rockstar Games co-founder Jamie King, cementing its status as the most celebrated Web3 gaming release of 2025.

Set on cyberpunk-inspired Teardrop Island, the game combines extraction royale mechanics with battle royale intensity across 150-player matches. Neill Blomkamp’s cinematic direction shapes the world through evolving narrative missions. A full 60-hour campaign remains in development for future release. The game runs on GUNZ, a custom Avalanche L1 blockchain, enabling optional NFT ownership for in-game assets.

How Does Off The Grid Work?

As a third-person shooter, Off The Grid emphasizes tactical gunplay with cybernetic enhancements. Matches combine PvP combat with PvE missions across 150-player battles on Teardrop Island. Ranked Mode adds structured competitive progression and higher-tier HEX rewards. You carry two weapon slots, which makes every loadout a real choice. Movement rewards skilled play through dodge mechanics, wall-climbing, and jet pack mobility.

Combat balancing positions cyberlimbs as tactical tools rather than guaranteed eliminations. Players deploy unarmed, redeployment terminals are rarer, and automatic respawns disable earlier in matches. High-tier loot zones signal through smoke markers and defensive turrets, while HEX extraction requires functional generators.

Digital Collectibles in Off The Grid

GUNZ is an Avalanche L1 blockchain. The GUN token (10 billion supply) powers marketplace trading on OpenSea and the native GUNZ marketplace for weapons, cyberlimbs, character cosmetics, and gear as NFTs.

Hexes are loot containers discovered during matches. Extract them successfully and they convert into tradable items including weapon skins, character customization, and cybernetic modifications. Blockchain integration is completely optional, so you can play it as a traditional free-to-play battle royale without crypto features.

Items gain value through genuine scarcity and player demand, not artificial inflation. GUN is listed on Binance, and the full marketplace is available on PC. Gunzilla secured $100M+ funding from CoinFund, Avalanche’s Blizzard Fund, and Republic Capital without traditional VC control.

Esports and Competitive Scene

Off The Grid established esports credibility with the $600,000 All-Stars Invitational and daily cash tournaments. The game peaked at 150,000 concurrent Twitch viewers during launch week, with Ninja, TimTheTatman, and Shroud driving mainstream visibility.

Ranked play adds a competitive structure through tier-based progression and Extraction Royale Trios with ten squads. Higher rarity HEX drops reward top performers, while squad coordination and cyberlimb synergy determine victories.
