Do you want a fitness app that turns your outdoor runs and walks into a game? STEPN is a move-to-earn fitness app developed by Find Satoshi Lab (FSL) where NFT sneakers track your movement and generate token rewards. With over 5.7 million registered users, it’s the most established move-to-earn platform in Web3, and it now runs as two connected apps: STEPN OG for the crypto-native experience and STEPN GO for social fitness with easier onboarding.

What is STEPN?

STEPN is developed by Find Satoshi Lab (FSL), a Sydney-based studio founded by Jerry Huang and Yawn Rong. The original app started on Solana in 2021 and became the app that defined the move-to-earn category, reaching peak hype in early 2022 before stabilizing into a long-term active user base.

STEPN GO is a companion app for mainstream fitness users who want move-to-earn rewards without needing to set up a crypto wallet. STEPN GO has the Haus System, where existing sneaker holders can lend their NFTs to friends and split earnings, lowering the barrier to entry significantly. A partnership with Adidas produced 1,200 pairs of a co-branded Adidas Ultraboost 5, with priority for Genesis sneaker holders, bridging physical and digital in a concrete way.

FSL also offers GMT Pay, including a virtual Mastercard gift card for spending GMT anywhere Mastercard is accepted.

How Does STEPN Work?

STEPN OG tracks outdoor movement through GPS and awards tokens based on your NFT sneaker type and pace. Sneakers come in four types: Walker (1-6 km/h), Jogger (4-10 km/h), Runner (8-20 km/h), and Trainer (1-20 km/h). Each type earns optimally within its speed range, so using the wrong sneaker for your pace reduces earnings. Energy determines how long you earn per session, starting at 2 units daily for one sneaker and scaling up with more.

Each sneaker has four attributes: Efficiency (GST earning rate), Luck (Mystery Box drop frequency), Comfort (GMT earning potential at Level 30+), and Resilience (durability decay rate). Spending GST on repairs and upgrades maintains and improves these attributes. Sneakers can be leveled up to 30 using GST and GMT, unlocking additional attribute points and GMT earning at higher levels. Minting combines two sneakers to produce a new one with inherited traits.

STEPN GO uses the same movement mechanics but focuses on social features. The GGT (Go Game Token) replaces GST as the primary earning token, and the Haus lending system enables sneaker sharing between friends.

Digital Collectibles in STEPN

STEPN NFT sneakers are tradable assets on the in-app marketplace, priced in GMT. Rarity tiers run Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary, with higher rarity providing better base attributes and earning ceilings. Gems slot into sneakers to boost specific attributes, and Mystery Boxes dropped during runs contain Gems and other items.

The token economy uses three tokens. GST (Green Satoshi Token) has unlimited supply and is earned through daily movement, spent on repairs, upgrades, and minting. GMT (Green Metaverse Token) has a fixed supply of 6 billion and is earned at Level 30+. GMT powers premium functions including high-rarity minting, governance votes, and GMT Pay spending. GGT (Go Game Token) is STEPN GO’s utility token, earned through movement in that app.

Getting Started in STEPN

Download STEPN OG at stepn.com or STEPN GO via the App Store or Google Play. STEPN GO allows sign-up with email via FSL ID without requiring a crypto wallet, making it the easier starting point. STEPN OG requires its in-app wallet (on the Solana, BNB Chain, or Polygon realm) and the purchase of at least one NFT sneaker from the in-app marketplace. Entry-level Common sneakers are the cheapest starting point, with cost varying by market conditions. For your first session, set your GPS to outdoor mode, equip your sneaker, and start moving within your sneaker’s optimal speed range.
