This officially licensed NBA platform lets you own video Moments from iconic plays, trade them in a global marketplace, and compete in challenges, all built on the Flow blockchain, with a new class of partnered rookies every season.

What is NBA Top Shot?

NBA Top Shot is a blockchain-based digital collectibles platform developed by Dapper Labs in partnership with the NBA and NBPA. The platform exploded to mainstream popularity in early 2021, with hundreds of millions of dollars in trading volume during its peak.

Each season NBA Top Shot partners with a group of rookies for signed editions and small mint counts. In the 2026-27 season that class includes AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer, and Caleb Wilson.

Built on Flow blockchain created by Dapper Labs, NBA Top Shot converts NBA game highlights into NFTs called Moments, short video clips featuring dunks, assists, blocks, and game-winning shots. Each Moment carries a unique serial number verifying authenticity and scarcity. The platform also covers the WNBA, with Moments from A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, and emerging stars.

How Does NBA Top Shot Work?

Collect Moments by purchasing digital packs during scheduled drops or buying directly from the peer-to-peer marketplace. Entry-level packs start at about $10. Each Moment includes player stats, game context, and a serial number indicating rarity.

Rookie editions are deliberately small. Rookie Debut Moments mint to /500, the fully signed Signature Style edition to /49, and Blue Chip to just /3.

Fast Break connects your collection to live NBA action. Select Moments before games, earn points based on player performance, and climb leaderboards. The Tap To Watch feature integrates live streams through the NBA scoreboard interface.

Challenges reward collectors who complete specific sets. The top 26 collectors on each partnered rookie’s leaderboard receive a Rookie Yearbook Moment.

Digital Collectibles in NBA Top Shot

Moments function as NFTs on Flow blockchain with provably scarce supply caps. Common editions have the largest mint counts and Legendary editions the smallest. Collectors pay close attention to serial numbers, with low serials (#1-10) and milestone serials (#23 for Jordan fans) the most sought after.

The marketplace operates peer-to-peer with a 5% seller fee. The most famous sale is still a LeBron James dunk that went for over $200,000 during the 2021 boom.

Scarcity also comes from trade-ins. Part of each partnered rookie’s Moments is set aside for upgrade auctions, where collectors trade in Moments for rarer versions.

Fund your Dapper balance in US dollars by card, PayPal, Apple Pay, or cryptocurrency. Pack drops are announced on X (@NBATopShot) and usually run through pre-orders with a random draw, so fast clicking doesn’t decide who gets a pack.
