Do you have fond memories of side-scrolling through Henesys and Ellinia with a party of friends? MapleStory N is Nexon’s blockchain version of the classic 2D MMORPG, with the familiar classes, bosses and cute art style, plus items you can turn into NFTs and trade with other players.
What is MapleStory N?
MapleStory N is a free-to-play PC MMORPG built on the MapleStory IP, one of the longest-running online games in the world with more than 250 million registered players. It is developed by NEXPACE, Nexon’s blockchain studio, and it is the main game of MapleStory Universe, a wider ecosystem of apps that all use the same items.
If you played MapleStory before, a lot will feel familiar. You level up a character in a hand-drawn 2D world, take on quests and theme dungeons, join a guild and fight bosses like Zakum, Horntail and Lucid. The roster covers the classic Warrior, Magician, Bowman and Thief branches, with jobs such as Hero, Bishop, Night Lord, Mercedes and Phantom.
With more than 3.8 million registered accounts (May 2026, per NEXPACE), it is one of the largest blockchain games running, and new events follow every few weeks.
How Does MapleStory N Work?
Day to day, MapleStory N plays like a classic MMORPG. You hunt monsters, follow quest chains and gear up for harder content. The Maple Guide (F1 by default) recommends quests, hunting grounds and dungeons for your level and can move you straight to them, which makes the early levels quick.
The difference is in what happens to your loot. Equipment and other drops from monsters and quests land in your Character Inventory first. From there you can enhance them and keep playing as usual, or mint them so they become on-chain items. Minted items move to your Wallet Inventory, where you can sell or trade them with other players.
Because items exist in limited numbers, rare drops keep their rarity. That makes enhancing and boss runs feel a bit more meaningful than in a game where everything can be bought from the shop.
Digital Collectibles in MapleStory N
The NFTs in MapleStory N are game items and characters. Weapons, armor, accessories and other equipment can be minted, and characters themselves can be minted too. Only a minted character can take items from the Wallet Inventory back into the game, so minting a character is the step that links your account to the item economy.
Everything runs on Henesys, MapleStory Universe’s own chain built on Avalanche. Trades happen on the MSU marketplace, and NXPC is the ecosystem token behind it. You don’t need to buy NXPC or NFTs to play, but you will see the marketplace and token prices around the game, so it helps to know what they are before you start.
Getting Started in MapleStory N
Go to the official MapleStory N site and download the Windows client. The game is free to play, with an optional item shop. You do need a MapleStory Universe wallet account to log in, and new accounts must reach Credit Level 2 by completing KYC or verifying a Visa or Mastercard card before they can enter the game.
In your first session, create a character, pick a class that matches how you like to play, and open the Maple Guide to follow the recommended quests. Good to know: MapleStory N is not available in every country (at launch the United States was among more than 50 restricted regions), so check that your country is supported before you create an account.
