Want a space MMO where survival comes first and every base, gate and turret belongs to another player? EVE Frontier is a survival game from Fenris Creations, the studio behind EVE Online, playable now in early access on PC and Mac, with a free five-day trial and ownership data on Sui.
What is EVE Frontier?
EVE Frontier is a space survival MMO set in the EVE universe. You wake up as a clone in a hostile region trapped between three black holes, with 24,000 star systems to explore and very little to keep you alive. Fuel, ore and a working ship are what matter in your first hours.
The game comes from Fenris Creations, the studio formerly known as CCP Games. Where EVE Online has a huge established economy, this one starts over regularly. The game runs in Cycles, and until the full release the universe is wiped at the end of each one, so everybody begins again with the same empty map.
How Does EVE Frontier Work?
The core loop is fuel, mine, refine and craft. You scan for signatures in and between star systems, gather resources, turn them into parts and build what you need next. Ships are modular, so a hull is put together from separate components, and your thrusters and engines decide how a ship handles and how far its fuel goes.
Flying is third-person and free-form. By default you steer with the mouse and use the keyboard for thrust and braking, and classic WASD controls are one setting away. A skill system improves your character and your Shell, the clone body you inhabit, as you gain experience.
Other pilots are the biggest danger and the biggest opportunity. Players build bases, gates and turrets, and they fight over the space around them. Feral Drones follow the same rules as you do, so they scan, mine and scavenge for the same resources, and your routes affect where they show up.
Digital Collectibles in EVE Frontier
EVE Frontier keeps ships, structures and resources as separate objects on the Sui blockchain. For players, the practical result is Smart Assemblies. These are in-game structures such as turrets, stargates and storage units that people can program with their own rules, for example who may pass through a gate or who may use a storage unit.
Most in-game trade uses LUX, a currency that stays off-chain. The EVE Token lives on Sui and can be exchanged for LUX in both directions. EVE Vault, the official wallet, holds your Sui assets. It comes as a web app and as a Chrome or Firefox extension, you create it with your game login, and it needs no seed phrase. Fenris Creations covers the network fees.
Getting Started in EVE Frontier
Create an account on the official website and download the launcher for PC or Mac. Your free five-day trial starts when you create a character. Permanent Founder Access costs $39.99 and up, and the packs also include subscription time for after the full release, which has no date yet.
In your first session, follow the tutorial, learn to keep your ship fuelled and try the mouse flight before you stray far from your starting system. Good to know: anything tied to your place in the world disappears at the end of a Cycle, and buying Founder Access after a trial lets you keep your earned rewards and progress.
