Do you enjoy dungeon crawlers where the loot you pull is yours to keep and trade? Lost Relics (formerly Forgotten Artifacts) is a free-to-play action RPG by Australian solo developer Codebit Labs, set in the fantasy world of Lunaria. You explore procedurally generated dungeons, slay monsters, and discover NFT items you actually own. It is in Early Access and gets regular content updates and events.

What is Lost Relics?

Lost Relics was built by Cliff Cawley at Codebit Labs, an Australian one-man studio, and started out in 2019 under the name Forgotten Artifacts. The game runs on Enjin’s Matrixchain blockchain and has shipped consistent updates for over six years. It is in Early Access on the Epic Games Store, with a Steam release planned (Q4 2026).

The game is set in Lunaria, a fantasy world built around the town of Talmuth. Below the surface sits a dungeon network full of monsters, treasure chests, and blockchain loot. The tone is Diablo-style hack-and-slash: dark environments, escalating difficulty, and the genuine risk of losing your items if you don’t make it back to town.

How Does Lost Relics Work?

You start in Talmuth and select adventures from a dungeon map. Each run is procedurally generated within set tilesets, with difficulty and item rarity tiers gating access. Combat is real-time hack-and-slash, with attacks that cost Energy and special attacks on upgraded weapons. Bosses guard the end of each dungeon, and the only exit is through them.

The death system is what gives the game tension. Standard virtual items are gone permanently if you die mid-run. Blockchain NFT items are the exception: they survive death and return to your inventory. Taking a rare item into a tough dungeon is a genuine decision you have to make.

Skills include Combat, Cooking, Alchemy, Fishing, and Scavenging, and your build comes from your equipment loadout rather than fixed classes. Item rarity runs from Common through Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythical, and Transcendent. The level cap sits at 70 with a Prestige system for endgame progression. Competitive modes include Descending Nightmare and Descending Hellfire, both infinity-style dungeons with leaderboard tracking. Valor Expeditions add rotating content, and seasonal events run throughout the year.

Armor works through perks, where you assign Aegis Orbs to health, energy, damage, or damage reduction to shape a specific role rather than relying on drops. Weapons are upgradeable Soulcraft Weapons that go up to Legendary rarity, each with a socket you can imbue for customization.

Digital Collectibles in Lost Relics

Lost Relics splits items into two types. Virtual items are standard assets tradable on the Royal Emporium using in-game gold, lost on death. Blockchain items are NFTs on Enjin Matrixchain, dropped from monsters, chests, and high-level dungeons. They survive death and can be traded on the in-game marketplace or on external marketplaces such as nft.io.

The game supports Enjin Multiverse NFTs, meaning certain items from the broader Enjin ecosystem can be imported and used directly. Player homes are purchasable for gold and blockchain items near the Adventure Pass. Secret stash slots unlock in exchange for blockchain items, giving veterans expanded inventory options.

Blockchain wallet connection is fully optional. Download and play with an Epic Games account, no crypto knowledge needed. The game sets up a managed Enjin wallet for you, and moving to a self-custody wallet is a later step, only relevant when you want to trade items externally.

Getting Started in Lost Relics

Download free on Epic Games Store for PC and Mac. Sign in with your Epic Games account and you’re in. Your first session runs through introductory quests in Talmuth before opening the full dungeon map. Start on lower-tier adventures to learn the death mechanic before risking gear you care about. Good to know: Soulcraft gear is unbreakable, but any virtual items you carry are lost if you die on a run.
