This DeFi-enabled NFT game combines pixelated ghost avatars with interest-generating tokens on Base, creating a unique gaming ecosystem where you collect, customize, and play with your own digital ghost companions.

What is Aavegotchi?

Aavegotchi is an open-source NFT gaming protocol built by Singapore-based Pixelcraft Studios and governed by AavegotchiDAO. The game features pixelated ghost avatars staked with Aave’s interest-generating aTokens. It started on Polygon and moved to Coinbase’s Base blockchain after a DAO vote, for lower fees. Pixelcraft has since stepped back from active development, and the DAO is taking over stewardship of the protocol and its games.

Each Aavegotchi has unique traits like Energy, Aggression, Spookiness, and Brain Size generated by Chainlink’s random number generator. These traits affect rarity and gameplay performance. You customize your ghost with tradable wearables, level it up through gameplay, and earn yield from its staked collateral. GHST token governs all protocol decisions through the DAO.

How Does Aavegotchi Work?

Start by opening a Portal NFT, which reveals 10 randomly-generated Aavegotchis. Choose one to summon by staking required collateral (aTokens), while the other nine burn permanently. Your Aavegotchi’s traits and rarity determine its abilities and value.

The Gotchiverse is a 3D homeworld where you explore and build on REALM land parcels. Four Gotchus Alchemica tokens (FUD, FOMO, ALPHA, KEK) serve as resources you harvest from land or collect from maps. These craft Installation NFTs like buildings and harvesters. Land comes in three sizes containing different Alchemica deposits.

Gotchi Guardians is a free-to-play tower defense game on Steam (PC and Mac), directed by Jason Slama (GWENT, The Witcher series). Eight players battle building towers to defend against waves of Licks while sabotaging opponents. A browser version needs no download. You earn or buy G-Bucks to unlock skins, tower upgrades, and map reskins.

Daily petting every 12 hours maintains kinship, affecting performance. The Forge system lets you smelt wearables into components (Schematics, Cores, Alloy) then forge new wearables, preventing inflation.

Digital Collectibles in Aavegotchi

GHST is the governance token with a fixed supply of about 52.7 million, tradable on Ethereum, Base, and Polygon. Token holders vote in AavegotchiDAO on protocol decisions. Originally launched through a DAICO (DAO-governed token sale), GHST was later listed as collateral on Aave’s Polygon market.

Three NFT types form the ecosystem: Aavegotchis (ghost avatars), Wearables (trait-modifying equipment), and REALM parcels (Gotchiverse land). Aavegotchis and parcels are ERC-721 tokens, wearables are ERC-1155, and all three trade on the Aavegotchi Baazaar and OpenSea. Rare wearables command premium prices, while land generates value through Alchemica harvesting.

Gotchi Lending enables trustless NFT rentals through smart contracts. Lenders set an upfront cost, a profit split, and a duration, and the contract handles the rest when the rental ends. This lets players use an Aavegotchi without buying one.

Providing liquidity on the Gotchus Alchemica Exchange earns GLTR tokens, used to cut installation build times. The Base migration mirrored every asset 1:1, so owners kept everything they held on Polygon.

Getting Started in Aavegotchi

Visit aavegotchi.com and connect a Web3 wallet on Base network. New players can buy a Portal NFT to summon an Aavegotchi (requires GHST plus collateral), purchase one on the Baazaar, or borrow one through Gotchi Lending. The Baazaar accepts ETH and USDC as well as GHST.
