What is RIFTSTORM?

RIFTSTORM is a cooperative looter shooter with roguelite elements developed by Confiction Labs, a Singapore-based studio founded by CEO Arief Widhiyasa (Agate co-founder, Forbes 30 Under 30) and CCO Igor Tanzil. The company was originally named Mythic Protocol before rebranding to Confiction Labs in March 2024. The game secured $6.5M funding in September 2023 led by Shima Capital.

Set in the Occultical universe, players take on the role of Weavers—elite operatives of the secretive Mythic Protocol organization tasked with closing interdimensional Rifts and containing cosmic threats called Mythics. RIFTSTORM launched its Alpha Demo on Steam October 16, 2024, becoming the #1 trending free game during its first three days and reaching 21,000+ playtesters with 326,000 hours watched on Twitch that week.

The game features four secret societies with competing agendas forced to unite against common cosmic threats: Emporium (merchant-descendants of Templar Order), Naga Society (African-Asian mystic alliance), Maledictum (Vatican vault keepers), and The Kabal (industrial revolutionaries). Each society offers distinct playstyles and narrative perspectives shaped by player choices.

How Does RIFTSTORM Work?

RIFTSTORM delivers isometric twin-stick shooter gameplay across short, replayable missions designed for 15-30 minute sessions. Players deploy solo or with up to two friends in cooperative trios, clearing procedurally generated rooms, stacking build perks through Lythograms (power-up modifiers), and defeating set-piece boss encounters.

Choose from a growing roster of Weavers—each operative has unique skills and weapon preferences reflecting their secret society. Customize loadouts with primary and secondary weapons (assault rifles, sniper rifles, shotguns, energy weapons) before missions. During runs, unlock over 100 different Lythogram power-ups that apply wide-ranging boosts and modifiers, creating endless build synergies and playstyles.

Combat emphasizes shooting precision and dodge mechanics as you face Mythics—supernatural creatures taking countless forms with distinct challenges. Collect loot from defeated enemies, craft weapons using dismantled resources through the Bonesmith system, and complete objectives like boss elimination, room clearing, or Rift closure. The October 2024 Alpha added two new Weavers (Rook and Thistle), expanded crafting materials, weapon dismantling systems, increased mission variety, and larger maps.

Progression includes Periapts that reshape and fine-tune Weaver skills between runs. The Confiction Labs Portal platform lets players earn Protocol Points by completing ecosystem tasks and in-game assignments, redeemable for exclusive Weaver skins, media content, and future rewards.

Digital Collectibles in RIFTSTORM

RIFTSTORM plans blockchain integration through Xai (partnered September 2024) as a “technological layer” for secure transactions and player-driven world building. The current Alpha demo contains no blockchain features—future implementation will track player actions and mission consequences on-chain for transparent world state recording.

The XPSR-24 NFT collection represents the premier Occultical universe access pass featuring evolving NFTs with questing, leveling, and visual progression mechanics. Holders join an elite program fighting Mythics with cosmetic benefits across the ecosystem. XPSR-24 selection used Proof of Exposure verification—a lore-integrated allowlist system evaluating influence, gaming achievements, on-chain value, and creativity to combat botting (70% of Web3 airdrops typically claimed by bots according to Cookie3 data).

Wrap/unwrap mechanics will let players convert in-game items into tradeable NFTs via the Portal website. Wrapping removes items from gameplay for marketplace trading, while unwrapping destroys the NFT to return items for in-game use. Evolving NFTs gain new traits, abilities, and visual changes reflecting player experience and hours invested, creating legendary agent records embedded in RIFTSTORM mythology.

Confiction Labs pioneered “Collaborative Entertainment” where player decisions during Flashpoint events influence game development direction. Community members submit user-generated content (characters, Mythics, stories) to The Repository for team review—approved submissions become canon lore in future updates with contributor rewards in tokens or incentives.
