Do you like medieval fantasy MMORPGs with dungeon crawler mechanics? Koakuma was designed as a play-to-earn MMORPG set in the fantasy continent of Laria, featuring procedurally generated dungeons, 720+ unique equipment pieces, and NFT-based loot systems on Polygon and Binance Smart Chain. The game launched its IGO in January 2023 but appears to have ceased active development.

What is Koakuma?

Koakuma is a medieval fantasy MMORPG developed by Koakuma Studios and launched through an Initial Game Offering (IGO) in January 2023 across multiple launchpads including Seedify, GameFi.org, Gamestarter, and Spores Network. The project raised $3.09 million across private and public sale rounds with a $30 million pre-valuation.

Built on Polygon and Binance Smart Chain, the game was developed by a team of approximately 20 employees based in China, Vietnam, and the Philippines with backgrounds in RPG development and experience from tier-1 gaming companies. The game drew inspiration from classics like World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Gigantic, featuring high-quality 3D graphics and combat mechanics designed for both PC and mobile platforms (Android and iOS).

However, the project appears to have ceased active development following its 2023 launch period, with no significant updates found in 2024-2025. The official website is no longer functional, and the $KKMA token remains unlisted on major cryptocurrency exchanges with only 10 holders according to Etherscan data.

How Does Koakuma Work?

Koakuma was designed as a dungeon crawler MMORPG set in the medieval fantasy continent of Laria. Players explored procedurally generated dungeons filled with monsters, traps, and boss encounters while collecting equipment and crafting materials. The combat system combined mouse-click attacks with skill abilities mapped to Q, W, E, and R keys, similar to MOBA-style controls.

The game featured five character classes with distinct playstyles, each affecting stats including strength, intelligence, dexterity, attack, toughness, recovery, and vitality. Equipment came in multiple rarity tiers (common, uncommon, rare) with visual changes reflecting upgrades. A unique rune system allowed players to modify weapons and skills, with certain runes completely altering in-game animations when inlaid.

Dungeons operated on a roguelike structure where character upgrades earned during runs did not carry over after completion, emphasizing skill-based progression rather than permanent stat inflation. Boss fights were designed as challenging encounters requiring focus and pattern recognition. Players could team up with friends for cooperative dungeon raids or compete in PvP tournaments for seasonal rewards.

The Fief system functioned as a feudal governance model where players inhabited independent territories ruled by Lords who held Lord Mask NFTs. Fiefs operated under DAO structures requiring $KKMA pledges for proposals affecting transaction taxes, technology research, diplomatic relations, and large-scale missions. Fief income stored in treasuries funded development and player rewards.

Digital Collectibles in Koakuma

The $KKMA token served as the primary in-game currency with a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens (ERC-20 standard). Players needed $KKMA for upgrading equipment, forging weapons, enchanting gear, smelting skill runes, and marketplace purchases. The Koakuma Treasury was designed to buy and burn $KKMA tokens to create deflationary pressure as the ecosystem grew.

The secondary token $BOD functioned as an in-game utility currency earned through gameplay activities. A dual-token economy separated governance functions ($KKMA) from everyday transactions ($BOD).

Over 720 unique equipment types existed as NFTs, including weapons, armor, skill runes, and legendary hero skins. Each piece of equipment featured randomized attributes affecting player stats. All in-game items functioned as blockchain-based tokens and NFTs tradable in the game’s auction house or on external exchanges.

The scholarship system allowed NFT holders to act as managers and rent assets to scholars in exchange for shared rewards. Scholars made deposits in $BOD currency and met manager-set requirements to access rented NFTs. Lord Mask and Lord Tiara NFTs granted territorial governance rights and could be purchased using $KKMA tokens.

Current Status

As of early 2026, Koakuma appears to be an abandoned project. The official website is non-functional, no development updates have emerged since the 2023 launch period, and the $KKMA token remains unlisted on cryptocurrency exchanges. The Ultra Games partnership announced in September 2022 and SupraOracles integration appear to have not materialized into active game functionality.

Players interested in active MMORPG blockchain games should explore currently maintained alternatives with regular updates and functional gameplay.
